PIB Sailing Championship & Award Cerimony - Jun 22nd
Professionisti Italiani a Boston, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Boston, will host a sailing championship in Boston. Among the participants, three young sailors from the “Scuola Vela Mascalzone Latino”, nonprofit sailing school founded by Vincenzo Onorato, President of the Italian team Mascalzone Latino and winner of six world sailing cups
The three young Italian athletes (two students and one instructor) will compete against young sailors from three of the most renown sailing centers in the Boston area. The regattas will take place at the locations of the three local sailing clubs: the MIT sailing pavilion, the Courageous Sailing Center and the Community Boating Center, from June 16th through June 22rd.
Founded by Vincenzo Onorato, Mascalzone Latino is a racing team that competes in many different international sailing formats. The team also on two America’s Cup campaigns in the past. The Mascalzone Latino School of Sailing was founded with the goal of taking kids off the streets of underserved areas of Naples, Italy, and giving them the tremendous opportunity to learn not just how to sail, but how to perform sea-related jobs such as fixing boats, repairing engines, and perform better at school. The Mascalzone Latino school has chosen not only sailing skills, but also school grades and human behavior to select the three kids who have been awarded with the opportunity to race in Boston. All costs are covered by PIB and the Mascalzone Latino Sailing School. Quoting Mr. Onorato’s words: “When you are sailing it’s necessary to trust one another and work together constructively, or otherwise you don’t succeed; the same can be said about life…what we have created is not only a school of sailing, but of life as well.”
