President Spencer Di Scala and Vice President of Cultural Affairs Luisa Marino are pleased to present Italian pianist and composer Moira Lo Bianco. On October 18, she and the Moira Lo Bianco Trio, featuring Sweden’s Bruno Råberg on double bass and Italy’s Giuseppe Paradiso on drums, will perform her newly- released album Lunaria.

The lunaria is a leaf that seems to be made of silk but develops a sharp stem, as if to protect itself from the world. Framed by the essence of the lunaria leaf, Moira’s debut album is a collection of 13 deeply personal and heartfelt pieces, including 11 original compositions, wrapped in the silks of classical, jazz, and Middle Eastern-inspired styles.

Released on August 13, Lunaria is already making waves in Boston and Italy. She has performed Lunaria for audiences at the 2013 Newport Jazz Fest Opening Night Gala, Regattabar, Ryles Jazz Club, and the French Cultural Center, and earned coverage in publications throughout her native Calabria. Together, Moira and the Dante Alighieri Society are excited to share Lunaria with Boston’s Italian community.

Originally from Vibo Valentia, Moira is a graduate of the F. Torrefranca Conservatory and the University of Tor Vergata in Rome. She studied film scoring under Oscar- winning composer Luis Bacalov and relocated to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, from which she graduated in 2012. Recently, she has enjoyed collaborations with Marco Pignataro, Simon Shaheen, Kinan Azmeh, and M. Steinert & Sons, with whom she launched a workshop series entitled Improvisation for Classical Pianists.

Lunaria will be available for purchase at the concert and may be downloaded or ordered online at iTunes and CD Baby.
