Matino: Development Projects and Microlending – Sept 2010

“Applying Third-World Development Concepts to Improve Difficult Areas of Developed Countries”

Mons. Gennaro Matino is professor of theology, author of 22 books, founder of the non-profit “Associazione Mondo Amico – AMA” with the purpose of building development projects in 3rd world Countries.

He helped more than 50.000 kids worldwide, built development projects in India, Uganda, Senegal, Benin, Eritrea, Bolivia, Albania, Naples (Italy).

He worked with Mother Theresa in Calcutta, currently works with Nobel prize winner Muhammad Yunus  (founder of the Grameen Bank and writer of “The Banker of the Poors”) and with writer Erri De Luca.

Mons. Matino applies Yunus’ concept of micro-lending to most of his villages around the world, getting them to eventually subsist independently. Most recently, he is applying these concepts to help underserved areas of Naples. He therefore is a living example of how management and finance skills, wedded to compassion, can be leveraged for the good of our own cities.
